I had a patient from Rumson come to my office complaining of lower back pain radiating down her left leg.  She had an MRI of her  lumbar spine which revealed a disc herniation at L5-S1.  She was advised by a local orthopedic surgeon that surgery was her only option   My goal was to reduce pain and swelling that was present in the muscles and the sacroiliac joints.  I did this with application of interferential electrical stimulation, and gentle muscle work and eventually spinal adjustments.  She was  able to avoid surgery and is now pain free and has returned to her active lifestyle.
