Spinal and Extremity Correction
Chiropractic is beneficial for a variety of conditions. The word "chiropractic" means "to do by hand," and Dr. Leavitt uses a variety of manual techniques to treat the spine and extremities. These include trigger point therapy, myofascial release, therapeutic in-office exercises, Cox flexion distraction for disk herniations, drop table technique, instrument-assisted adjusting (Activator) and traditional chiropractic adjustments.
Activities of Daily Living Advice
Doctor in Latin means "to teach." This is a role we take very seriously. Dr. Leavitt teaches his patients how to perform certain activities, including recreational and occupational activities, in a way that promotes their progress and avoids aggravating their specific problem. We have found that the teamwork approach allows patients to achieve optimum results.
Patients are taught specific stretches and exercises to help rehabilitate the muscles, ligaments and tendons and stabilize the physical issue. Most exercises can be performed at home, at a gym/sports club, or at work. In addition to skeletal misalignment, muscles and connective tissues can be out of place or strained by unequal muscle tone and improper use. We have found through clinical experience that when supportive structures such as muscles, ligaments and tendons are stronger, the patient sees better outcomes.
If you have been involved in a car accident, whiplash injuries need to be taken very seriously. Because symptoms of a whiplash injury can take weeks or months to manifest, it is easy to be fooled into thinking that you are not as injured as you really are.
Too often people don't seek treatment following a car accident because they don't feel hurt. By far, the most common injury to the neck is a whiplash injury.Whiplash is caused by a sudden movement of the head, either backward, forward, or sideways, that results in the damage to the supporting muscles, ligaments and other connective tissues in the neck and upper back.
Unfortunately, by the time more serious complications develop, some of the damage from the injury may have become permanent. Numerous studies have shown that years after whiplash victims settle their insurance claims, roughly half of them state that they still suffer with symptoms from their injuries. If you have been in a motor vehicle or any other kind of accident, don't assume that you escaped injury if you are not currently in pain.
If you have been in an accident, please fill out the Auto Accident Injury Forms.
Sometimes the soft tissues (muscles, ligaments and tendons) aggravate the patient's condition by way of tightened muscles (such as spasms) and inflammation. We offer the following therapeutic procedures to address these issues:
- Interferential electrical stimulation
- Pre-modulated electrical stimulation
- Mechanical traction
- Hot and cold packs
Custom-Fit Orthotics, Braces and Pillows
Sometimes additional therapies are needed to achieve the desired outcome. We can provide custom-fit orthotics and support braces as well as pillows, therapeutic gels and other items that help certain patients.
